Although I really debated on selecting Arabic or Chinese, I finally decided on Hebrew. I had studied Hebrew for a few weeks, but all that I learned several years ago died. Hence, I can honestly say that I really do not know this language. I am very interested because there are many historical writings in this language. I personally am interested in reading those texts, which is why I chose Hebrew. If I were given two additional language options, I would probably select Arabic and Chinese. :o)How about you? Which language would you select?

I think Hebrew is a great choice. I hear that it is so difficult to learn, but rewarding to know. Wouldn't it be great to just wake up one day, skip the pain of learning it, and simply KNOW what you're looking at?

ReplyDeleteHebrew is very similar to Arabic. Both are semitic languages and have common roots. There are also a lot of similarities in vocabulary, phonetics and grammar.Yet, they do not use the same alphabet;therefore, in writting they are quite different. They also have many words that are similar between the two languages. for example,English (Jewish), Hebrew(Yehudi), Arabic (Yahudi).
ReplyDeleteProf. May, I will assist you to acheive your hope, I'll teach you Arabic. However, I have to pass this level.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you choose Chinese, Prof.May? In my opinion, because you know Korean and Korean apparently borrowed directly from Chinese, I think you should choose Chinese.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard for me!!
