Why Blog?

It has been said that writers are artists. Hence, as artists, we like to find different ways to express ourselves. In our case, our way of expression comes in the form of written text.

I would like all of you to be artists with the freedom to express yourselves in any way that you would like. Every Monday morning, I will post the topic for you to write about. Once you have read my topic, you will need to write your responses on your own blog. Your responses ought to be 2-3 paragraphs in length, but you should not spend more than 30 minutes writing them. Be sure to title each blog entry with "Topic #__:" and then your own title.

Next, you will need to comment on your classmates' blogs. Each student needs to leave a 2-3 sentences comment on two other students' blogs in order to receive credit per week.

Your responses and comments will need to be completed by 5:00 p.m. every Friday. There will be no exception! Therefore, plan on completing this assignment before the Friday deadline in order to ensure that you receive full credit, which will be 10 points for each week. I will be leaving a comment on each blog I read to indicate to you that I have read your blog.

On a final note, these blogs are intended to be fun and to allow you to display your creativity. Be adventurous and express yourselves! Although we may occasionally use some of your blog entries for grammar practice, these blogs are primarily focused on content. Therefore, have fun!

Topic #6: What Would You Un-invent?

We can very easily say that within the past decade, technology has made leaps and bounds in its advancement.  Do you remember when cell phones were JUST cell phones?  Do you remember the time before cell phones came into existence?  Did any of you carry pagers/beepers?  It is true that technology has made life easier.  However, I would like you to take a moment to really think about it.  Has technology truly made our lives easier?  Hmm...

The question I have for you this week is an invention that you would UN-invent.  Haha!  It sounds quite contradictory, but I want you all to really think about it and write your entries on this topic.  As I said in class, I really had a difficult time with this topic because I could not decide on which invention I would un-invent.  However, I finally decided on one and that is the GPS navigational system.  As much as I enjoy and really find the navigational system to be handy and efficient, I also see that it is at times hindering my brain from fully functioning.  I can recall the days when I used to take out my Thomas Guide map book and find my route like that.  However, now that we have the navigational system, we never think about where we are going.  We are simply turning into automatons, and I personally do not like that idea.  Again, let me reinforce the fact that I find them to be extremely handy and would be unhappy if my car was not equipped with one.  Nonetheless, I try not to use it all the time simply to make sure I keep my brain alive and active.

How about all of you?  What would YOU un-invent?  I cannot wait to read your entries!

  1. I agree a bit because some GPS devices show traffic flow; whereas, offline maps are not handy in this part.
However, massively relying only on GPS is not good at all.

  2. Forget the GPS; I love a good map. It is a great way to get to know a new place!

  3. In my country, GPS devices are not popular. But here, every family has at least one GPS device. So we can see how convenient it is.
